Sue Breland
Associate Director, Texas Certified Public Manager® Program
Sue Breland brings a unique perspective to the Texas CPM Program having been involved at every level since its inaugural class: student, alum, instructor, program director and since 2021, statewide program administrator. Over 40 years, Sue has worked within or with government and nonprofit sector organizations as both an employee and external consultant. Public service is her passion.
Over the years since 2008, Sue has served as the Director for local programs in Abilene, San Angelo, and Schertz. The CPM program in San Marcos is now her primary location. She continues to be an instructor in multiple programs particularly in the areas of research, survey development and productive conflict. Working with the Texas CPM Program Director, Dr. Miha Vindis, they share the administration of the fully Online CPM program and are developing new program locations to reach more public administrators across the state. Sue also maintains the Alumni database which boasts over 2600 Texas graduates.
In addition to Sue’s role with CPM at the William P. Hobby Center for Public Service, she is a free-lance facilitator/consultant uniquely adept at integrating the art and science of collaboration. Sue holds a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree from Texas State University, a BA in Speech and Drama, is a National Endowment for the Arts Fellow, and an actor and musician in the Austin area.
Sue brings her expertise and creative flare to organization development, training, business process design, project management and Corporate Social Responsibility. She regularly conducts workshops ranging from technical topics like Research Methods, Performance Management and Program Evaluation to such relationship driven themes as FUNdraising, Customer Service and Nonprofit Board Boot Camp. Sue’s activity-based approach brings fun and innovation to strategic planning and other business processes.
Sue is a graduate of Leadership Austin, the Board President of Austin Shakespeare, Director Emeritus of Impact Austin’s Girls Giving Grants (G3) and Facilitator in Chief at Breland Facilitation.
