Lynn Wills

Lynn Wills

Instructor, Texas CPM Program

Lynn studies and practices the art of writing, and he is fiercely dedicated to helping others build value for themselves by building their effective writing skills. He tailors writing workshops to meet the needs of private and public organizations, as well as consults with individuals one-on-one. Since technology impacts our writing, he stays on top of current topics like the implications of large language models. In addition, he studies how we can shape our writing to take advantage of human cognitive processes. Even though he has a strong foundation in policy, Lynn works with any writing genre or discipline from the liberal arts to STEM.

Lynn struggles with what he wants to do when he grows up. He spent 30 years in the United States Air Force, where he flew combat sorties in four conflicts and led units from 200 to 2000 airmen. After retiring, he worked in the defense industry as a business development lead and proposal manager. Along the way he earned four master’s degrees in Psychology (Ball State, 1979), National Security Management (National War College, 1994), and Public Leadership (2018) and Human Dimensions of Organizations (2020) from the University of Texas at Austin. Yet while educated, he is not an academic.

He is still struggling. Today Lynn is the president of the Jaguar Club of Austin and enjoys working on, and showing, his 1969 Jaguar E-Type. His personal garage also boasts a 2005 Porsche Carrera “S”. In addition, he studies and plays classical and Flamenco guitar, spending time rehearsing and performing in a guitar ensemble sponsored by Austin Classical Guitar. Finally, if there are any hours left in the week, he builds, crashes, and rebuilds remote control aircraft.

A family of faith, Lynn and his wife, Gail, live in the Texas Hill Country. They’ve been married 48 years consecutively with no end in sight. They have two sons and daughters-in-law, and two wonderful granddaughters.
